Ramboll, a global consultancy appointed by the EIB, conducted a market analysis on Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to ascertain the relevance of Equigy.
Equigy has been selected for Project Development Assistance by the European Investment Bank to support its growth under the EU Innovation Fund. Ramboll, a global consultancy appointed by the EIB to provide Project Development Assistance, conducted a market analysis to ascertain the relevance of the Equigy project. With the rapid electrification of end-uses in Europe, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), such as Electric Vehicle, Heat Pumps and Distributed Storage, are going to be key sources of green flexibility for the electricity grid.
The analysis was carried out by conducting interviews with relevant stakeholders such as TSOs, Aggregators and Energy Regulators complemented by desk research on regulations and market circumstances (including an extensive analysis of projected volumes).
The study focuses on the 5 countries where Equigy is active: The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. The results show that the potential of green flexibility is already significant, but will further exponentially increase in the coming years.
The Equigy Crowd Balancing Platform (CBP) comes out as a welcome solution that further accelerates this development by providing market participants a single entry point to all markets (“One-stop shop”), thus reducing costs for the stakeholders to connect to multiple platforms.
The study finally highlights main hurdles and makes suggestions how Equigy can help to overcome them.
Final note:
The war in Ukraine has resulted in the EU considering how to reduce reliance on Russian natural gas and oil, strengthening the necessity of a rapid clean energy transition tighten with the necessity of higher EU energy independence. Now more than ever, it is crucial to act fast and together.
